Volunteer

We’re always looking for dependable people to volunteer to support our community programs.

Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a number of creative ways for you and your friends to get involved:

Meals on Wheels

Are you a friendly, caring person with your own car, insurance, and a good driving record? Can you give three hours per week on a regular basis? Adopt a Meals on Wheels route, and make a difference in the life of a homebound senior or disabled adult. Your visit not only provides important physical nutrition, but it brings warmth and caring sustenance to people who may have little social interaction throughout the day. Volunteers pick up meals between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM, and should have their route completed by 12:00 PM. Routes are designed to take about one hour to deliver.

Lunch Program

Do you enjoy an attractive, well-prepared lunch? Join us in setting up and serving meals at our lunch sites. These locations provide lunch service and socialization for seniors.

Adult Day Care

Are you an upbeat person with skills as a musician, a social dancer, crafts-person, seamstress, or engaging conversationalist? Our Adult Day Care centers offer an opportunity to work directly with the elderly in one-on-one or group recreational activities.

If you are interested, please download the Volunteer Application for Adult Day Care Services and forward to our Fremont or Oakland location.

Money Management

Are you organized, good with numbers, and able to explain financial paperwork? BACS can help you become trained to assist seniors in paying bills, balancing checkbooks, and completing other paperwork, helping them maintain independence and avoid financial mistakes or abusive scams.

Supported Housing

Are you a house-painter, a carpenter, a plumber, or an electrician who would like to volunteer occasionally? Contact BACS to see if we have a current need for your skills.

Creative Living Centers

Are you a proficient computer user? A retired graphic artist? A knowledgeable gardener? A gifted seamstress? An amateur chef? A good photographer? The Creative Living Centers would love to hear from you to see if there’s a fit between your skills and the interests of their members. Volunteers can offer weekly assistance, informal courses, lectures, slideshows, or other skill-building or stimulating activities for clubhouse members.

Thank you for considering BACS for your volunteer experience.

"It gives me a lot of satisfaction to know I'm helping people in my neighborhood.

This is a great way to stay active and make a small commitment that makes a big difference."
