BACS Board members, staff and invited guests enjoyed a festive reception at the Sailboat House on Lake Merritt, launching the Seeds to Harvest Campaign in support of the BACS Social Enterprise Kitchen. The Kitchen and the associated Culinary Training School provide nutritious meals made from scratch with locally grown ingredients in a farm-to-table integrated model for some of Oakland’s most needy residents.

The highlight of the afternoon was a presentation by Raj Patel, internationally renowned food insecurity expert and author of “Stuffed and Starved”, on the global food crisis and the rightness of the Social Enterprise Kitchen as the local approach to dealing with it here and as a model for elsewhere.

Mark your calendar for October 2, 2008, when the Seeds to Harvest Campaign will publicly celebrate its successful close. You can donate online, or by mail to the BACS Administrative office, P.O. Box 2269, Oakland, CA 94621.
