BACS works with Alameda County social services groups to help you find trained, screened, and reliable care providers. These fully vetted professionals can provide round-the-clock or hourly assistance for those in need, from the frail and lonely to those needing specialized care for stroke rehabilitation or dementia. Our caregiver registries are described below. For more information, contact our In-Home Care Program. RegistriesWe maintain two registries of home-care workers:
IHSS CaregiversBACS is one of seven organizations in Alameda County that provide screened, home care worker referrals to those eligible for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). Home care workers offer a variety of services authorized by IHSS, including light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation and personal care. BACS provides the referral but does not manage workers. Those who use the registry are responsible for hiring, scheduling, supervising, and if needed, firing these caregivers. To determine your eligibility for IHSS care, contact the IHSS. In general, you must be a low-income, elderly or disabled adult in need of home or personal care. Private CaregiversWe also maintain a private registry of screened home care workers for those who are not elligible for IHSS. To use this registry, you must be aged 60 or older, live in Alameda County, and be able to pay $10-$12 per hour for services. Workers are hired and paid directly by those seeking assistance, and BACS does not manage them.
Funding for this program is provided by the Area Agency on Aging, the Public Authority, and individual donations. |
As we age, most of us will lose capabilities that we took for granted in our youth. We may need help with cleaning and cooking, managing medications, and eventually with mobility and self-care. But these constraints don't mean having to relocate to an assisted living facility or nursing home. Dedicated care professionals can provide the help you need. |
