Keeping adults connected to their communities. Since 1953, Bay Area Community Services (BACS) has been providing compassionate care to preserve the health and dignity of at-risk seniors and mentally ill adults in Alameda County. Despite vast differences in their day-to-day lives, frail seniors and the mentally ill share some common characteristics: They face obstacles to independent living, they recognize that they can’t manage on their own, and they don’t always know how to ask for the help they need. BACS provides these vulnerable adults with the basic necessities that most of us take for granted: a roof over our head, a warm meal, and social kinship to strenghten our spirits. Our services are hands-on and grass roots, focusing on improving individuals' daily lives. We help our clients stay active, manage their health, and reduce hospitalizations. We help prevent malnutrition, isolation, hopelessness, and despair. We build ongoing relationships with our clients to help draw them into their communities. Our programs are based on health and recovery models that emphasize each individual’s need for respect and dignity, a place to belong, and meaningful activity. These connections help sustain and rebuild lives. We provide a safety-net to help marginalized members of our community live their lives to the fullest. Our mission is to improve the quality of our clients' lives through the quality of our services.
